Meet our instructors

It’s a family affair. David Macneill and his nephew JR Macneill are professional kiteboarding instructors who love to share their knowledge, passion, and experience with their students.

David Macneill

David founded PEI Kiteboarding in 2005 after being introduced to the sport in 2001. His kiteboarding adventures have taken him across four continents, to seven Caribbean islands, as well as Hawaii in 2012, where he won the Big Air Contest in the Maui Pro-Am Kite Jam. For many years he spent his winters teaching in south Florida, allowing him to hone his skills year round through teaching thousands of students. Known for his smooth style on the water, his passion for the sport and his patient nature make him an excellent instructor.

JR Macneill

David introduced JR to kiteboarding ten years ago while on a family vacation to south Florida. After a few years in the corporate world, JR made a decision to follow his passion. He left his home province of Alberta and moved to the Island. Following his PASA certification in the spring of 2018, on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, he began his teaching career alongside his uncle. Spending summers on the Island, and a couple of winter seasons teaching on the Caribbean islands of Turks & Caicos has led him to the kiteboarding mecca of the world, Brazil, where he continues to develop his teaching and riding skills. His calm demeanour instils confidence in his students, ensuring they feel comfortable and safe.
